Where is 14-year-old Drina Stevens?
Where is fourteen year old Drina Stevens? That’s the question that her mother Lavern Arzu is asking as it’s been almost a week since the second form student of Georgetown Technical High School has not returned home. Drina, a resident of Seine Bight, was seen leaving for school last week Wednesday when she got on a bus en route to Georgetown in the Stann Creek District. She did not attend classes that day and hasn’t been to school since then nor has she returned home. Arzu says that her teenage daughter has been spotted in Placencia in the company of a family member who was recently released from the Youth Hostel. The single mother of five children is concerned about the welfare of her daughter.

“Drina get ready to go for school…she changed up and took her school bag, but apparently she didn’t reach school that day. When the bus came from Georgetown the evening, my big brother went to the bus and see if she come out of the bus. But she didn’t so he ran home and asked if Drina reached home. I told him no she didn’t reach home as yet, but I noh know what happened and immediately I start to trip.”

“Is it the first time she’s done this? Gone without a word?”
Lavern Arzu
“This is the first time and she never do me that. Noh kay what; everybody in Seine Bight know that I am a strict mother…six o’clock I start to trip. My pickney dehn can’t stay away from me because I am a single parent and I make sure that they dah my company and I make sure they are with me anywhere I go.”

“So why would Drina do this?”
Lavern Arzu
“Well I noh know why Drina would do this because me I work hard for them and I buy everything that they need. I give them money, lunch money and I even open credit for them at Georgetown Tech so that anytime they get hungry they can go get it and I then I pay the bills. But most of the time I always make sure that they get their money, everyday.”

“So where is Drina?”
Lavern Arzu
“Well right now, I di hear too much thing about Drina. I know she was in Placencia. Three days she was in Placencia so I try to capture her. I pay three days on the stretch I di pay people fi make dehn search for Drina. But Drina know my truck so from far anywhere she see my rest of pickney dehn or the rest of people, she done know that dehn di look fi ahn and she done know that she neva gone dah school so she mussi fraid that I wah beat ahn. Right now I noh know what di happen to Drina. Nobody do Drina anything at home; I can’t say that anybody beat her at home or anybody abuse ahn; she’s just following the wrong friend at the wrong time. And I so afraid that’s why I come over the air so that I could get help. I went to the police man them and I noh get no good response from them.”
