No Charges In Weekend Murder of Luis Ortiz

There are still no charges being brought against six men who were detained for the murder of Maya Mopan resident, Luis Ortiz. Ortiz was killed on Sunday morning; his body dumped in the river near the Agripino Cawich Bridge in Camalote. His vehicle was also discovered partially submerged in the Belize River. His friend, Jose Gonzales was injured to the head and back by the attackers, but he played dead and survived the incident. The men entered the vehicle in front of the Cabana Night Club as Ortiz and Gonzales were about to provide a ride to a friend from Teakettle Village. Upon reaching the cemetery in Crooked Tree, Ortiz and Gonzales were beaten. Police confirmed today that two of the six men have since been released and investigations continue.
