Was Belize City Resident Anwar Vernon Murdered?

Was thirty-one-year-old Anwar Vernon murdered?  It’s a baffling case that has Belize City police stumped.  Vernon had been admitted to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital a week ago, after being found unresponsive in a drain.  He was observed with varying degrees of injuries, however, it is yet to be confirmed what caused Vernon’s wounds and how he ended in the drain.  As such, police are treating the matter as a homicide, but have little to no leads to go by.  According to Assistant ComPol Chester Williams, little is known about the deceased and family members are yet to come forward with information.

“Mr. Anwar Vernon succumbed yesterday to injuries he had received and at this time, we ourselves are still trying to find out what actually happened and we are awaiting the post mortem examination so that the doctor can tell us basically what type of injuries he sustained and based on that we will be able to determine whether it was a murder or if he just fell in the drain, if it was an accident, whatever the case may be.  At this time we cannot say if it is a murder or what so we await the post mortem examination and then based on that then we will decide where to go but in the time being we are treating it as a murder because in law we normally start with the highest and then we go down.  So we treat it as a murder investigation for now.”

Anwar Vernon succumbed to his injuries at around two-thirty on Tuesday afternoon.
