Taxi Driver Javier Saragossa Convicted for Reckless Driving
Forty-four-year old Javier Saragossa, a Belize City taxi man, picked up a conviction for reckless driving but he must go to trial for the offense of failure to provide a urine sample. Saragossa initially pleaded guilty to both charges saying he did want to waste time going back and forth in court but he was told that was unacceptable to the court. He then accepted the facts on the charge of reckless driving, but was in disagreement with the police who claimed he refused to give them a urine sample. Saragossa, police say, was acting suspiciously while he was in a car on Mahogany Street. When they approached him, he drove his vehicle toward theirs and according to police this is when they detected he smelt of alcohol and was staggering when he exited his vehicle. In court, Magistrate Deborah Rogers offered him bail in the sum of one hundred dollars and he is due back in court on June fourteenth, 2016. In respect of the charge of reckless driving, Saragossa was fined one hundred and fifty dollars.
