Robateau returns to Salvation Army post
The Regional Headquarters of the Salvation Army has moved quickly to name a replacement for the head of the church in Belize. Major Errol Robateau and his wife Sheila, no strangers to Belize arrived back in the country over the weekend to take up their appointments as Regional Commanders. Major Robateau replaces James Garth who was stripped of his rank as Captain and expelled from the Salvation Army, after an investigation by headquarters concluded that he had committed gross wrongdoings. Robateau told News 5 by telephone this evening that he has spent the last couple of days going through the Army’s accounting system to try and get a handle on the financial state of the organisation and what work needs to be done to get it back on its feet. Among the difficulties that the Salvation Army in Belize has to overcome are thousands of dollars in outstanding debt to various business establishments and community discord brought on by the illegal appointment of officers by the previous Regional Commander. A public welcome ceremony for the Robateaus will be held on Thursday night at Central Corps on Cemetery Road beginning at seven o’clock. Chief Secretary from the headquarters in Costa Rica, Major Douglas Danielson, will preside over the installation of the new Regional Commanders. Major Robateau and his wife are Belizeans who worked here previously in the same post for ten years from 1986 to 1996.
