Is Gang Rivalry Motive Behind Weekend Shooting?
Is the weekend shooting of a pair of Belize City men a gang related incident? Nineteen-year-old Abraham Craig and twenty-two-year-old Tyrone Guy were attacked on Saturday evening by a lone gunman as the two were standing on Caesar Ridge Road across from Bismark Recreational Center. As many as ten shots were reportedly fired at the duo, causing injuries to Craig’s right leg and Guy’s shoulder and legs. The armed assault happened in known gang territory just a few hours after the funeral of a rival leader. While police are yet to make any further connections, residents in the area say that sometime shortly before six p.m., an unnamed assailant rode up on bicycle and let loose a barrage of gunfire on the unsuspecting men. Following the near-fatal shooting, the attacker attempted to flee the scene by heading in the direction of Faber’s Road where he was reportedly captured by police near St. John’s Vianney Primary School. News Five made several attempts to get a comment from Assistant Commissioner of Police Chester Williams but we were informed that he was conducting an intervention with members of the feuding groups.
