Accused murderer escapes from jail cell

A foul up at the Queen Street Police Station today allowed two accused murderers to escape…and while one, Basil Willis, was quickly captured, the other, Darrington Lauriano, remains at large. The two inmates, both on remand at Hattieville, were brought to the city for court hearings. At around one thirty this afternoon a check of the Queen Street lockup revealed they were gone, the result, according to a press release, of a newly assigned special constable’s failure to lock the cell door. That same release says Police Commissioner Carmen Zetina has ordered a full investigation and at least one senior officer is facing disciplinary charges. The public is asked to be on the lookout for Darrington Lauriano and report any sighting to the nearest police station.
