Suspected case of arson on Regent Street
A fire that broke late this afternoon just across from our Channel Five Studio on Regent Street is being treated as a suspected case of arson. Shortly before four p.m., the right upper floor of a two storey wooden home located beside Young’s Law Firm caught fire and caused employees of the law firm to seek refuge outside the building. Luckily enough no one was inside the home and the quick response from fire fighters contained the fire before it could spread. According to fire officials, arson is suspected as the fire started from outside the building. Caretaker, Hazarth Jones was not at home at the time of the fire but says he knows what happened.
Hazarth Jones, Fire Victim
“This place was flooding and the guy use to come and chop the yard so I report it to the lawyer cause it was flooded out. I leave and when I come back this is the program I see.”
Duane Moody
“Did it have electricity inside?”
Hazarth Jones
“No, nothing.”
Duane Moody
“So what could have caused the fire?”
Hazarth Jones
“Well, someone blast something through that place. I reported that he chopped a pipe there so it flooded out from Friday.”
Duane Moody
“So this recently happened.”
Hazarth Jones
“Yes, I went to the lawyer this morning and tell him that the guy chopped a pipe there from Friday and this place flooded out. So I don’t know what happened. After that”
Duane Moody
“So you think the person retaliated against you because you complained about him?”
Hazarth Jones
“Yes sir. Maybe. I don’t know but it looks so.”
