Escaped convict shot in legs, captured
A convict on the run is back in police custody tonight after a face off with authorities in the Cayo district left him with bullets in both legs. According to San Ignacio police, around twelve thirty this afternoon, residents of Esperanza village called in to report a burglary in progress. The cops arrived just in time to see an armed man leaving the scene of the crime and ordered him to stop. But according to officers, the thief, brandishing a machete, approached them in a menacing manner, which forced them to respond by shooting him in both legs. The injured man has since been identified as twenty-three year old Fernando Crawford. Crawford, already wanted by Hattieville Prison officials after he escaped from the facility approximately a month ago, is believed to be the culprit responsible for a number of other burglaries in Esperanza. Crawford was taken to the San Ignacio Hospital for treatment and is expected to be charged with several counts of burglary. News 5 understands that as soon as he is medically fit to leave the hospital, he will be returned to his cell to serve the rest of his previous sentence…before the clock starts ticking on any additional time he is ordered to serve if convicted on the new charges.
