Fatally shot in Santa Elena

While Belize City police try to bring closure to Saturday night’s fatalities, their colleagues in Cayo have detained one person for questioning in the weekend’s third homicide. On Sunday just before midnight they were called to Carillo Puerto Avenue in Santa Elena where they confronted the lifeless body of thirty-two year old Ernest Kemp. According to police, a friend of Kemp’s told them that he and Kemp were hanging out at his house when Kemp decided to leave. Shortly after departing, the friend heard four shots and a cry from Kemp. Suffering from bullet wounds to the right temple and upper arm, Kemp was pronounced dead on arrival at San Ignacio Hospital. If Kemp’s name sounds familiar it’s because almost four years ago he was arrested and charged with abetment to murder and conspiracy in the killing of Therese Blake Ayuso. Charges against Kemp were eventually dismissed. The name of the person detained by police has been withheld pending any charges.
