Still No Arrests in Double Murder of Guatemalan Men
Meanwhile an investigation is ongoing in the double murder of two Guatemalan nationals in the San Francisco area of San Ignacio. Fifty-two-year-old Santos Ramon Gomez and thirty-seven-year-old Orlando Antonio Garcia Calletal, who were believed to be drug peddlers from neighboring Melchor De Mencos, Peten, were executed off a feeder road between mile sixty-nine and seventy leading to the Mopan River. Their bodies were found lying side by side with multiple gunshots. While evidence retrieved from the scene suggests that the murders were drug-related, no one has been charged for the crime.
Sr. Supt. Andrew Ramirez, Western regional Commander, Police Department
“What you guys have so far relating to that, we still believe it is a drug related double murder. We recently met with our counterparts from Guatemala and they are also involved now in the investigation by investigating over that side in relations to the phone. They are seeing if any of the deceased was in possession of any phones and they’ll be assisting us. We have another meeting planned for an update in what’s happening within the next two weeks. That meeting was held along with the Officer Commanding San Ignacio, Mister Rosado, myself and other senior members of the police department.”
