3 Arraigned for Shooting in the City
Three of four persons are in custody tonight for a shoot-out last Thursday night in the City. The intended target was Mark Vernon, a city resident. But it led to another shooting involving top cop, Assistant Commissioner of Police Chester Williams and officer in charge of south side team, who was in the area in a private vehicle. Three of the men were arraigned in court this morning as the fourth, a nineteen year old, remains hospitalized. Larry Wright, Justin Hyde and Devon Sankey, were charged with deadly means of harm. The fourth person, Zachary Knox, is presently under police guard at the K.H.M.H. and could not appear in court. Vernon claims that he was riding his bicycle and when he reached at the intersection of Euphrates Avenue and Cairo Street, a Mazda pick-up drove up and several shots were fired in his direction.
When a description of the getaway vehicle was transmitted on the police radio, ACP Williams responded and caught up with the vehicle at the intersection of North Creek and Curassow Street. Knox, a passenger of the vehicle exited with a firearm in his hand and fired shots at Williams but missed. He then ran into Curassow Street but was intercepted by the Mobile Interdiction Team at a checkpoint on Fabers Road. Hyde, Sankey and Wright were inside the vehicle were arraigned before Magistrate, Deborah Rogers remanded to the Belize Central Prison until July twenty-second, 2016. Knox will be arraigned for the same offense once he his released from the hospital. The men however have not been charged for shooting at Chester Williams.
