Wicked Eleven take cricket crown

Story Picture
Good evening, I’m James Adderley with this fresh delivery of Sports Monday. The friendly confines of Double Head failed to propel Excellence in Game I of the Harrison Parks National Cricket Championship. So on Saturday, Game II moves to Flowers Bank where Wicked Eleven ball club hope to seal the 2004 title.

It’s Excellence batting first and with eight men down with only a forty-five run total to show every run is a big one.

However, it’s down to one batter when Wicked Eleven displays wicked defence to pick up the final out limiting Excellence to fifty-one runs all out–The question now is can they shut down the Wicked bats to force a game III?

The answer comes more quickly than is expected–the Excellence bowlers certainly keep getting batted about by the opposition.

In fact, the dominance of the Wicked Eleven offence becomes painfully apparent and they somehow make the fielding team play for every little mistake. This hit for the runs bring, the championship closer and closer to Flowers Bank.

Wicked Eleven has fifty run with four outs when this single is drilled through the infield–the throw is errant–one more run is scored–to make it fifty-two and with six wickets to spear. The fans crowds the pitch as Wicked Eleven wins the 2004 Harrison Parks title out Flowers Bank.

And this is a snapshot of the entire team to whom we certainly want to say congratulations.

Randy Rhaburn, Captain, Wicked Eleven

“Well I think from last year the team had improved a lot. We had a guy that we lost just about half the season–who was one of the top bowlers–actually he get six men in the first game. So that was a part of why we were a bit sluggish in last year’s playoffs. But this year, we had the full team in full force and the team that we matched up against was a pretty lighter than we think and we just come out with everything and we managed to make it.”

Emmanuel McFadzean, Field Captain, Excellence

“We need to go back to the scoreboard and bring back our captain, manager and everybody who play a part in this competition on our team–so that next year we can improve, go back and get the championship for next year’s season.”

Turning to the basketball scene the semi pro season concluded regular season play last night at the City centre with BTL nets hosting the Belmopan Blue Devils.

Folks, if one Blue Devil came to play tonight its Aubrey Lopez and he left hands it all the way to prove it. Kelvin Gillett replies with this big time three point bomb for BTL he would finish with thirteen points.

Of course, the Nets also feature Superman Keith Acosta who strikes for three of his team high twenty-two points right here.

Jon Rhys, formerly of Dangriga then strikes for two of his ten game points for Belmopan. But the Aubrey Lopez pushing Belmopan along–hitting this three–he would finish with the game high of thirty-five points. And at the half BTL is up by two.

However, in the fourth quarter the ballgame is tied at fifty-four points apiece so Keith Acosta strikes for two.

Kirk Burgess, who would finish with eleven points strikes for three more BTL points right here.

The easy feed to AC Augustine is effective–Ac would finish with ten points.

Then Keith Acosta times this pass perfectly to come up with the interception and goes all the way for two BTL Nets go on to win seventy-one to sixty-four in regulation play to post their seventh victory of the season.

Of course, both teams were already assured of the play offs going in.

BTL finishes with 7 wins 1 loss; they have become the number one seed.

Kruzzaz with 6 wins and 2 loss; they are the number two seed.

Orange Walk 3 wins and 5 loss; they are the number three seed.

Belmopan 2 wins and 6 loss; despite their loosing two ballgames this weekend moves on.

Corozal 2 wins and 6 loss; is shot out of the season.

The playoff begins this Friday August twenty-seventh at the City Centre. The BTL Nets hosting the Belmopan Blue Devils and on Saturday at the very same venue, Kruzzaz sees play against Orange Walk Warriors.

Checking the Santino’s Non-Elite Cycling Classic presented on Saturday, Leroy Trapp took top honours, Marlon Smith second, Roque Matus third, Santi Castillo fourth and Edwin Martinez rounds out the top five.

Now folks more Non-Elite Cycling continues this weekend with Ray Cats Masters Classic coming up. It’s going to be a three day staged tour on the twenty-eight and twenty-ninth of August. Hey stay tuned. That’s it for now though. Thanks to our cameramen for the great work over the weekend. Jah over all, I’m James Adderley.
