…And Foreign Minister attends OAS meeting on crisis
And still on the situation in Honduras, the United Nations and the OAS are also meeting and what is emerging is the clear isolation of Mitcheletti and his appointed cabinet. Zelaya has also been invited to address the United Nations’ General Assembly this Tuesday. News Five spoke with Foreign Affairs Minister Wilfred Elrington as he departed Belize for the OAS meeting.
Wilfred ‘Sedi’ Elrington, Foreign Minister
“This morning we issued a statement just before the twelve-thirty news condemning the ouster, the military coup against the President Zelaya and calling for his reinstatement. And that is our position, we do not agree with the legal acts at all, at all, at all and we think that he should be reinstated as quickly as possible. We condemn it without reservation. Both Belize and Honduras are members of the OAS and the OAS subscribes to democratic process and the rule of law. So we are going there now to try to resolve the matter in a peaceful way as expeditiously as possible. It is a whole question of the illegal removal of the president. We want to make sure that he can be brought back to the country and assume his position.”
