5 Belizeans march in Athens opening

With only five members, we did expect the Belize delegation at the Athens Olympics to get much screen time…And, sure enough, the T.V. glory lasted for all of about six seconds. Just for the record, the faces you see on the instant slow motion replay belong to athletes Michael Aguilar and Emma Wade, along with officials Sonny Meighan, Fred Evans and Josephine Flowers. Aguilar, a Belizean-American, will compete in the four hundred metre hurdles while Wade will run the two hundred metre sprint. Neither is expected to advance beyond the first qualifying round and we will hopefully record those heats from the feed of the Caribbean Media Corporation next week. Due to requests from viewers, our coverage of the opening ceremonies, which took place this morning, Athens time, will be taped off the NBC satellite feed this evening and broadcast on Channel 5 tonight at nine, following Oprah.
