Courts Donates Ten Thousand Dollars to Lifeline Foundation

A donation that will go a long way for children was handed over to the Lifeline Foundation today at Courts Main Store in Belize City. Unicomer Belize Limited provided the non-profit organization with a ten thousand dollar cheque to assist pediatric cancer patients, who are in dire need of financial assistance to fund medical treatment. Unicomer says it is assuming its corporate responsibility program to assist the community, and the Lifeline Foundation is one of its many beneficiaries. News Five spoke today with Lifeline Director Karen Bevans and Unicomer’s Marketing Manager, Karin Castellanos about the donation.

Karin Castellanos, Marketing Manager, Unicomer Belize Ltd.

“We are very pleased to have given this donation and to see the support of the foundation to that. We brought their directors to come in to receive the check. The Lifeline, the donation given to them is part of our corporate social responsibility we have with Unicomer Belize where we select different organizations and N.G.O.s to give assistance. It is important specifically for this foundation that’s giving to the children that have cancer; it is their livelihood. We want to make sure that they give some child or a few children an opportunity to get treatment.”

“We at Lifeline normally contribute to education, health and children on a whole, children in need; any philanthropic efforts that we could do to assist and develop children and improve the opportunities of the underprivileged kids. In our partnership with courts here today, we will do a contribution to children with cancer. They specifically requested that and we have assisted in that cause before so this ten thousand dollars will go directly to assist children with cancer. We have many requests already, we have many children in need for that cause and we already know that by the time we start investing this will be gone, but Lifeline however will continue to contribute, continue to raise funds, and if we need to assist further we are very open to do it as we usually do.”

“We have been doing different kind of donations to several different organizations. Last year we did to the elderly homes, we did with the pediatric unit and we recently did a volunteer week with the different branches across the country in Belize and right now we are working on the process of doing scholarships.”
