35th Annual C.B.U. conf. to open in Placencia

More than a hundred and fifty journalists, station managers, producers, and other media officials from across the Caribbean will descend on the Placencia Peninsula this week, but no there?s no hot story, besides the sand, sun and surf of one of the country?s hottest destinations at least. Delegates began arriving on Sunday for the thirty-fifth annual general assembly of the Caribbean Broadcasting Union. The three day meeting opens on Wednesday at the Inn at Robert?s Grove Resort, and will hear reports from various sub committees, and C.B.U. president Vic Fernandes will update members on the work of the membership organization over the last twelve months. According to Fernandes, the AGM was extended to a third day this year to allow for presentations and exhibits by programme screeners and equipment providers. One of the topics up for discussion during the meeting is a multi-million dollar project being executed by the C.B.U., which will see the setting up of a number of earth station facilities at various sites in the Caribbean. These earth stations will allow participating member stations to share local programmes with each other. This week?s C.B.U. annual general assembly will end with the Hall of Fame induction and awards for excellence in journalism. The event is being hosted jointly by Love FM and Channel 5.
