Drug plane moved to secure location
Intense investigations continue in the north tonight as authorities search for more clues in connection with the discovery of an aircraft filled with cocaine near the Belize/Mexico border just after midnight on Friday. Police tell News 5 the aircraft has since been moved to a secure location as officers investigate its origin and the identities and whereabouts of her crew. When the twin engine Beechcraft made its landing near San Lazaro village, the cops were waiting, thanks to an anonymous tip, and a dramatic hour-long shootout ensued between the drug dealers and law enforcement officials. When the staccato of AK-47s and nine millimetre handguns ceased, the bad guys had left the area, and their precious cargo behind. Stored throughout the aircraft was a whopping seven hundred and two point five kilos or thirteen hundred pounds of cocaine. Conservative estimates put that kind of powder?s street value at some thirty-five to forty million dollars. So far, no one has been detained in connection with the huge haul and tonight, police are appealing to anyone with information to please contact the nearest station or call the 9-2-2 hotline.
