Canoe team fights on in Texas
When we last touched base with the Belizean canoe team in Texas they were waiting for record floodwaters to recede before embarking on one of the toughest races in the world: two hundred and sixty miles, a day and a half of non-stop paddling in the Texas water Safari. As it turns out, those miles took their toll as the six man team of three Belizeans and three Americans was whittled down to a total of just three paddlers by the finish of the race. After Daniel Cruz, Alex Lisbey and American Peter Churchman had to leave the canoe with medical problems, it was left to Armin Lopez to captain the vessel into sixth place with a time of just over thirty-seven hours. The team, now returned to health, is preparing to compete in the Texas State championships.
