Good evening, I?m James Adderley and we?re rolling out another in the series we call Sports Monday. With Juventus and Sagitun already bound for the three game Regents Cup Championship series–there was little strings remaining as the playoffs round reached its natural culmination over the weekend.
Saturday night we caught up with the Builders Hardware Bandits as they made their stand for the 2004 B.F.L. football season inside the Isidoro Beaten Stadium, knowing full well that they were looking to rescue any measure a fan respect available in their match up with Juventus of Orange Walk.
However, it is the O.W. team who bring on the first threat when Christopher Hendericks fires on goal while Raul Celiz heads back the rebound to similar but unwanted results.
The Bandits waste no time in responding and indeed Dennis Serrano should have given Capital City the lead with this open look,but ce la vie people, ce la vie.
The Bandits get another opportunity when Deon Guzman finds Dennis Serrano and again the outsider can?t covert.
And yes Deon, it looks like the left foot is an ornament this season, but you have a whole lot of time to fix that.
Nevertheless, we?re only fifteen minutes into the ballgame when this corner kick reaches Rubriel Mendez and El Matador strikes for the Juventus 1-zip lead.
Now keep your eyes on Dennis Serrano of the Bandits who smashes a right hand into the jaw of Roberto da Silva for which he gets chased by Referee Clother.
Unlike last week, though this time the Bandits do not bow to the numerical disadvantage instead they respond big time when Guzman heads to Charlie Slusher whose half volley beats Geovany Rodriguez to tie the score cut the forty-first minute and at the half we?re tied at one a piece.
In end half Lincoln Wiltshire gets taken down inside the eighteenth by Raul Celiz–the referee rules penalty.
Charlie Slusher who is the Bandits first-string goalkeeper most of the time–steps up to the pill and the Bandits take a 2-1 lead at the forty-eighth minute of play.
O.W. tries to come back when Robert Burns launches this grass head burner that sees the goalkeeper come up with a scrambling say.
Meanwhile folks, Charlie Slusher might just be a natural born striker–look at him beat the keeper–turns around and finds Guzman who gives the Bandits a 3-1lead.
Two minutes later, Christopher Hendericks chests to Raul Celiz whose left foot launch sails past a flying Francisco Ponce to make it a 3-2 ballgame.
Juventus mounts a serious pressure in an effort to tie the score and their best opportunity comes when Roberto da Silva bends this spot kick around the wall only to see Ponce make a spectacular score.The Bandits g on to post the 3-2 big W and hand Juventus its second lost in two weeks.
In the other match-up Saturday night Griga blanked Sagitun 3-zip at Independence.
Nevertheless, it?s Sagitun & Juventus into the Championship round which should get off this Saturday at Independence.
Sagitun finished with nine points, with twelve goals scored and eight taken. Juventus also finished with nine points, but with ten goals scored and eight taken–Bandits finished with seven points and of course Griga with six.

Now let?s head to the Civic Centre for Friday night?s semi-pro basketball encounter featuring B.T.L. Nets of Belize City in action against the Belmopan Blue Devils. Claude ?too-tall? Jones represents the Devils at the top off against Kirk Burgess and we?re underway.
AC Augustine gets off to a great start penetrating and hitting the 2–he would finish with twelve points-fourteen rebounds.
This long press down court finds John Rhys who gets the bucket and gets the foul?he would lead the Bandits with thirteen points.
At the other end Ernest Broaster comes up with this display of strength that nets the B.T.L. two points and at the end of the first quarter B.T.L. leads 20 -14.
It?s more Broaster in the second quarter when he goes glass for 2–he would strike for thirteen points.
Here Carlisle Barrow kicks up the loose ball and strikes for two Belmopan points the hard way.
However, B.T.L. Nets has the momentum in this one thanks to performers like Darwin ?Puppy? Leslie who would lead the way with twenty-two points.
We rejoin the action in the third quarter where the undefeated Nets are enjoying a twenty point lead, so Darwin Leslie makes it twenty-two with their monster jam. The Nets go on to have the W in an eighty for fifty-five final score. And yes, semi-pro certainly has a long way to go.
Turning to cycling scene, the John Shamba Dominguez?s and Dwayne Arnold?s Memorial fifty mile cycling classic staged yesterday by the E.P. Yorke Cycling club saw this five man breakaway make it all the way to the Marian Jones Sporting Complex.
Here?s the sprint for the morning; it?s Jerry Flowers jumping out the lead and prevailing for first place, Wilbert Gillette takes second, Leroy Trapp third, James Cauchy Welch settles for fourth while Kevin Hall rounds out the top five.
Meanwhile, another event was staged on Sunday dedicated to the memory of Kevin Coye and Carlisle Staine; it?s a criterion package around the Princess Margaret circuit. We fast-forward to the finish and here are Santi Castillo and Ricky Waight locked in a sizzling sprint–we slow it down just to make sure that Santi is the one that wins and yes he is–and we say congratulations to the chief. Leroy Trapp pulls up third, Marlon Smith fourth, while Errol Gentle rounds out the top five. Hey that?s it for now. We invite you back same time, same place next week.
