Robert Hertular extradited
He may have made headline news on television, radio and in the newspapers, but it was not until several hours after Robert Hertular was put on a plane at the Philip Goldson International Airport and flown to the United States, that the media via a press release from the Government Press Office, found out that he was extradited to face drug trafficking charges in that country. The press release states that around eleven this morning, Robert Hertular was successfully removed from Belize in accordance with a request made by U.S law enforcement authorities for his extradition. On Wednesday, the Supreme Court of Belize dismissed Hertular?s application for a Writ of Habeas Corpus, challenging the decision of the chief Magistrate ordering his extradition to the United States. Since Hertular did not apply for a stay of the execution of the Supreme Court judgment, he was accordingly extradited as ordered by the court. Once in New York, it is expected that Hertular will take up residence on Rikers Island. It is not yet certain when he will stand trial on charges relating to the large-scale importation of cocaine into the U.S.
