Season two of Duets ready for prime time
The first season was so well received that its name became synonymous with Tuesday nights. Channel Five is preparing for season two of Duets. Just in case you don’t know what we are talking about, Duets is the competition that brings Belizeans performers to the stage to showcase their talents—whether it is drama, dance, song or a combination of all three. The thirteen weeks of performances promises to be fun for the audience and the Duets on stage, but the winning pair can smile all the way to the bank with a grand prize of ten thousand dollars. Host William Neal says Duets season two is bringing a number of singers to the stage but all in all, the public can simply expect great entertainment.
William Neal, Host, Duets Season 2
“Season two duets… I think people can expect it to return almost more to a karaoke kind of television scene because the singers this year have been really, really strong—the auditions that we’ve seen have featured primarily singers. And whereas we want the variety that we had in season one; I think we are going to see a strong return to more singing and performances by singers, but I think there is still room for a lot of dancers and a lot of people who are dramatists. That’s what we are looking for and that’s what we are hoping for. But I think definitely you can expect a hyper season in that people know what to expect and I think they will come definitely with their A game all the time.”
“Ten Thousand dollars—who could not use ten thousand dollars with the economic downturn and everything else? So, ten thousand I think is still a sizeable winning for any talent competition in Belize. In fact, I might very well argue that it is the largest purse that we have for a talent prize. However, it’s also one of the most challenging competitions that we have going simply because you have to come on a weekly basis. It becomes very intense as you move towards the finals where you have to come up and be creative every week and I think that’s the challenge and that’s the scary part for some people; because you have to be original, you have to be creative and you definitely have to be hungry for that ten thousand dollars week in week out. I think Duets because of its national scope has the opportunity to really showcase talent from across the country. So you can’t showcase your talent if you don’t audition. That is the reality and the auditions are held early on because once the show begins, it’s closed.”
The final audition is Saturday at ten a.m. at the Bliss Centre for the Performing Arts.
