It?s Sagitun vs. Juventus in Football Final
James Adderley, Reporting
Good evening, I?m James Adderley and we?re rolling out another blast of Sports Monday. Builders Hardware Bandits of Belmopan faced its moment of truth Saturday night when they hosted Sagitun of Independence in Week 5 of the Regents Cup Playoffs. Only a win could keep Belmopan?s hopes at reaching the Championship round alive.
Before we get on though, we take you in front of the South bond goal inside the Isidoro Beaten Stadium to give you a feel of what impact Saturday?s rains has on the pitch.
Therefore, it is with a sense of urgency, the Bandits open the action and Edward the Buzzard Pandy has mean intentions when he fires off this set piece.
The Bandits come again with the set piece as Derys Banavides fires this spot kick that forces Darren Hinds into an acrobatic save.
On this push, Serrano tries to hook up with the streaking Dean Flowers, but Hinds intervenes.
At the other end Sagitun gets a half chance to score, but they blow it as Francis Carcass Arzu only half aware of where they give away really is.
We must say, the Bandits return the favour immediately when they failed to pull ahead on this strange turn of events, which brings us to a scoreless ballgame at intermissions.
In second half Sagitun looks for the lead when Linares finds Robert Muschamp, but the launch rises over the crossbar.
We?re some seventy minutes of the ballgame when Robert Muschamp centres to Francis Carcass Arzu and the net shakes off the crucial header.
But the Bandits aren?t yet ready to relinquish their playoff ambitions and they find a reply when Derys Benavides fires off this broken play and Hinds can only watch as the game is tied at one a piece at the seventy-fifth minute.
The Belmopan team has a new lease on life so Orlan Lyons tries to give his team this left foot that rolls outside the sticks.
Of course, Wayne Wiltshire doesn?t help his team much when he?s just off the bench and comes in just to get tossed.
Meanwhile, Francis Carcass Arzu doesn?t want to go to another over time, but he?ll have to learn to keep that shot down.
However, it?s the Bandits who take the lead in the first overtime when Derys Benavides forces the Sagitun defence into this auto-goal and the Capital City gang is close to achieving its objective.
People, the drama mounts when three minutes from the long whistle, Hilberto Muschamp mount this individual effort that ties the ballgame so we need a second fifteen minutes of overtime play.
After over a hundred minutes of play the numerical advantage of Sagitun begins to kick in so the Bandits mounts this last gasp effort that sees Benavides does everything proper except get the ball between the sticks.
On the next press by the team from the South, Hilberto Muschamp finds Kenton Galvez who smashes the pills into the net for the 3-2 lead Sagitun lead. Give Hilberto Muschamp a goal and two assist when he splices perfectly to Carcass Arzu who beats Charlie Slusher to score into an empty net.
Meanwhile folks, goal number five come when Charlie Slusher runs into Referee Ruperto to commit this turnover–Sagitun recovers the pill, Roberto Muschamp goes to Hilberto Muschamp who goes to Kenton Graham who gets his second goal of the match as Sagitun posts the 5-2 overtime win.
In the other Regent Cup Match up on Sunday, Griga United got its first post-season win. This the number one seed from regular season play. They got their first post-season win by halting Juventus 3-2. Thus, with one week to go, both Sagitun and Juventus show nine points apiece; both teams are headed to the championship round. Belmopan shows four points–Griga three–of course, we have one week to go.
In Semi-pro basketball news, B.T.L. Nets crushed Corozal Dolphins ninety-two to sixty-nine over the weekend. In the meantime, we do know Thursdays scheduled match at capital city between Belmopan and Orange Walk will be played at a later date, but all other Semi-pro basketball match remain as scheduled.
In cycling news, Roger Troyer won yesterday?s Benque Fiesta Cycle Classic beating out Jose Troto, Jeffery Zelaya, Shane Vasquez and Ray Cattouse in that order. We say congratulations to the top five.
Meanwhile folks, the last time we saw Stephen Ferguson as a cyclists, he was finishing fifth inside a vehicle, but today he?s among some twenty riders who have who have come seeking the big W in this twenty mile non cyclist ride on the Western Highway which staged yesterday. And yes, Wendy Simmons is in this race too.
At the turn around point, our boy is out of the lead pack because of a spill at Mile three, and a half but yeah he prevailed, he persevered and he?s hanging in there today.
So let?s fast-forward to the finish. Here is Arlington Young capturing the victory in unchallenged fashion. Ras Michael Henry certainly is savouring his second place finish today. And here is Stephen Ferguson, he is overtaking Wendy Simmons; he takes third place. This time we must it?s a blast improvement from the last outing. Congratulations at are due. Wendy takes fourth while Earl Young rounds out the top five.
Meanwhile folks, the price of competition for some none cyclists is sometimes costly and after the ride, Steven Ferguson needs immediate attention just to take off his riding shoes and he needs help just to stand up. In this sports business we call that sweet pain–because nothing ventured, is nothing gained. Besides, it?s good clean healthy fun. Hey people that?s our show for this weekend. We invite you back same time, same place next week. Jah over all, I?m James Adderley.
