Police Operations Yield Firearms Across Belize City
Five firearms have been taken off the streets of south side Belize City. Today, Eastern Division South Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police Chester Williams called the media to his office at the Raccoon Street Police Station and displayed the five guns that were discovered on Thursday during several searches in hotspots across the city. In all cases, no one was in the area and the guns have been kept by the police. But were they used in the committal of recent crimes? That’s what News Five asked ACP Williams.

“We have five firearms; three nine millimeter pistol, one three eighty and one point thirty-eight special revolver. These firearms are the product of the hard work of the police officers on south side Belize City; precinct one and two, the Strike Team and the Special Branch working in collaboration to be able to remove as much firearms as we can from off the streets of Belize City.”

“I notice that some of them have found property on them. How were they retrieved? People from the community handed them in or from searches?”

“All of them are found properties and they are a result of police searches in different areas, known hotspots of Belize City. We have one that was found in the Saint Martin’s area…well actually two in the Saint Martin’s area near the Flamboyant Street. We have one that was found on Euphrates Avenue which is the point three-eighty revolver. We have these two that were found on Mahogany Street in the Precinct One area so it is a good catch for the police and these were all retrieved this week. So between Monday and today, we have retrieved a total of five firearms off the streets.”

“Now sir, are checks going to be made to determine whether these firearms were used in the committal of any crime?”

“Most naturally, yes, they will be sent to the lab for analysis, ballistics as well to be able to determine whether or not they have been used in any crime. We are also doing our own search to see if any of them have been reported stolen.”
