Soft shoulder topples cement truck

If you’ve ever wondered why drivers of big trucks and buses are reluctant to pull off the side of the road, wonder no more. Around nine this morning the unlucky man behind the wheel of this loaded cement mixer put two wheels onto the soft shoulder of the Northern Highway at Bella Vista, and before he knew it he was the Belizean version of Humpty Dumpy. Even in the best of times that stretch of road can be trouble and after recent rains it just couldn’t take the pressure. With radically increased traffic caused by residential development between Belize City and Ladyville, there is an obvious need to expand the route into a four lane divided highway all the way to the Haulover Bridge…and beyond.
