2 Belizean “Coyotes” Detained by Cops
ACP Broaster says that the rural corridor is used by coyotes to transport illegal immigrants into the country as they make their way to Mexico with their final destination the United States. The department has developed a strategy to intercept the coyotes as well as how to deal with the human cargo.
ACP Edward Broaster, Regional Commander, Rural Eastern Division
“We know that it is happening rampant just that in the past they were eluding us. And we believe that we have figured how we will be intercepting them from here on.”

“So you think this case is one of human trafficking?”
ACP Edward Broaster
“Well we are looking at it from both angles, both human trafficking and human smuggling. We know that there are individuals who transport these individuals from Salvador to Belize through Mexico to the U.S. and have them work like slaves to pay off debts, if not they kill their families in Salvador. With the victims not cooperating with us at this time, it is difficult for us to really pinpoint exactly what it is.”

“Considering that the three Salvadorans are minors, immigration is the only agency getting involved in this?”
“No, we made an attempt to contact the Social Department last night, but was unfruitful. We hope to get them in or immigration will do so. I know that the criminal investigation branch major crime team is coming to do some interviews as well and then immigration will deal with the charges.”
Broaster says that the Belizeans will soon be charged for human smuggling while the Salvadorans will be charged for illegal entry.
