City Council adds restroom to downtown park
This morning the Belize City Councillor responsible for parks and recreation, Eric Chang, along with Mayor Moya Flowers, cut ribbons for a new bus stop near courthouse and for a restroom at the Battlefield Park. It wasn’t a big event, but in case of rain and in case you’re downtown and have a personal emergency, these small additions to the city’s look will prove useful to commuters and pedestrians. The mayor spoke to the small gathering.

“We just opened one of several bus stops that people will now see along the city. They are standardized. This particular one has been adopted by the Smart Company. It’s one of the largest bust stops that we have and clearly it will be one of the main ones serving the downtown area. And that particular facility is something that will really be useful in terms of the rain, in terms of the sun. So persons can come down and while they wait for the bus, no longer will they have to be standing or hitching up against a particular business wall. They will now have a nice clean safe place to sit down and so that particular bus stop should really come in handy.”
“We also have this particular restroom facility. Whilst persons may say okay it’s just a restroom; it’s not just a restroom. This is part of our own initiative as a Belize City Council to ensure that our residents are given the facilities that they should have. As you come down town, whether just to shop or window shop, or just to walk along or just to entertain yourself and relax. Often times you want to use a restroom and there is not many businesses may have restrooms or some may say it’s only if you are a patron then you can use it. Well, no longer. They will have access to this particular male and female restroom. It is a tiled facility and it has the particular amenities for both male and females and it will be in a safe area. It will also be right within the Battlefield Park.”
The council says it has employed a caretaker for the bathroom and a small token will be charged to cover utility expenses for its upkeep.
