4 arrested for Husman murder

Story Picture
Police and the victim’s family have been tight lipped about a possible motive and other details, but tonight three men and one woman are behind bars, formally accused of murdering twenty-five year old Nadir Husman on the twentieth of last month. This morning I joined a large and boisterous crowd on Bishop Street as the prisoners left their arraignment.

Patrick Jones, Reporting

It was more sound and fury than anything else outside of Magistrate?s Court this morning, as angry relatives of four people charged for the murder of Belize City businessman Nadir Husman denounced the weekend arrests.

Eighteen-year-old Madina Martinez, twenty-five year old Kent Skeet, seen here kissing the baby, twenty-five year old Gerald Tillett, and twenty-eight year old Keon Williams who spit on our cameraman, were formally arraigned on charges of murder and conspiracy to commit murder when they appeared before Chief Magistrate Herbert Lord.

Skeet?s mother, Sonia Harris, told News 5 that her son could not have committed the murder as there are several people who can vouch for his whereabouts on Father?s Day.

Sonia Harris, Mother

?They have the wrong people. They have Keon Williams, Kent Skeet. I don?t know about Tillett and I don?t know about Martinez, but I know one thing, Keon Williams and Kent Skeet was with a lady back by Bismarck. They were there playing cards, they ate Father?s Day dinner with them, and they were in these people?s presence all day. Ma?am whosoever coming to you for this reward I want you to hold the reward, because you could pay your reward, but you?re still not getting the killer, you understand.?

But Harris is not the only person offering an alibi for one of the accused. Tillett?s cousin Stephanie Smith and his girlfriend Genelle Williams both say he spent most of Father?s Day in bed.

Stephanie Smith, Gerald?s Cousin

?The day when they say that thing happen Gerald was at home. He was drunk, deh inna fu he bed, because he gone dah Sizzla the Saturday night and he come home fuh gaan christening his baby and couldn?t even mek the christening, because he mi drunk.?

Genelle Williams, Gerald?s Girlfriend

?He couldn?t mek it. Dah me and two ah the next godparents mi have to gone fuh stand in the place. And from then when I come home he mi still the sleep with the bucket front ah him because he was vomiting up. Then a mek his cousin ker me go buy the drinks and thing and they help me with the food and thing. He get up late the night.?

Williams says that when Tillett got up, he stayed at home playing video games. The family of the accused men believe that someone has been giving the police misleading information.

Genelle Williams

?He noh mess wid Madina, so I noh know how Madina could di say that. He dah no friend with Madina.?

Patrick Jones

?But why are you accusing her of being the person who fingered him in this murder??

Genelle Williams

?Because I hear that dah she the call names.?

But reports to News Five are that a tip from someone other than Martinez led police to arrest the three men and one woman over the weekend. Still, the families believe that the police have the wrong people.

Patrick Jones

?Miss Harris, your son is being charged. These are some pretty serious charges, what would you say to those who are saying this is just the reaction of a mother trying to stand up for her child??

Sonia Harris, Mother

?I am trying to tell anybody that say, ?well they heard this before?, a mother know their son. And as I said before, if my son did it, there is a God before, I don?t want nobody to judge my son because the Lord will judge him.?

Patrick Jones, for News Five.

All four accused appeared in court undefended. They were remanded to Hattieville prison until their next court date on August fifth. In related news, we are informed that the Salt Creek shooting range, scene of the murder, has been levelled by bulldozers so that it can no longer be used.
