Suspect detained in Cayo murder
Police in San Ignacio have detained a man believed to be the machete-wielding murderer who chopped a man to death on Monday afternoon. According to police, twenty-two year old Rodney August was on the banks of the Macal River in Santa Elena Town along with an unnamed female companion, when he was attacked. August, who sustained a large cut wound to the upper part of his back, was able to identify his attacker to police before he died and that man is now in police custody pending a charge of murder. Jealousy is being investigated as a possible motive for the killing and police are focusing their questions on the woman who was with August at the time of his death.
And in a follow up to a story we reported yesterday, a post-mortem examination on the body of Felix Jimenez of Ontario Village revealed that he died of drowning. The body of the twenty-eight year old man was found floating in the Belize River behind the Warrie Head Lodge on Sunday.
