Ashton Puerto Charged for Roaring Creek Murder
Eighteen year old Roaring Creek resident Ashton Puerto was detained Sunday night for the murder of another youth, Maleek Norris, also eighteen. The two teenagers were allegedly beefing over a bicycle and ten dollars, and Sunday afternoon in Roaring Creek that beef resulted in Puerto shooting Norris with a homemade pipe shotgun. Norris died and Puerto was captured by Police, the weapon found dumped, but the youth claimed self-defense because he says Norris hauled a knife at him first. Belmopan Police were waiting for instructions from the D.P.P.’s Office and apparently they got them, since Puerto was charged for murder today. He would have been arraigned today, but there was no Magistrate in Belmopan. It is expected that he will be read formal charges before a judge on Wednesday.
