Guatemala will propose free trade pact
Guatemala would like to conclude a free trade agreement with Belize. That’s the hope of Foreign Minister, Jorge Briz, as quoted in the Guatemalan daily, Prensa Libre. While not abandoning the territorial claim, Briz called for a deepening of relations between the two countries marked by concrete actions that would promote development in the border areas. Referring to talks at O.A.S. headquarters in Washington scheduled for July fifteenth and sixteenth, Briz reaffirmed that the two countries would discuss confidence building measures and moves toward an eventual solution to their differences. That solution, he said, should be just and equal utilizing the mediation of the O.A.S. and friendly nations.
