Richard Smith Guilty of Aggravated Assault of His Stepson

After more than a month in the hospital, police have charged twenty-three year old Richard Smith with four criminal offenses.  Smith was chopped by his fourteen year old stepson for allegedly abusing his common-law wife, Ursula Ferguson, who is the mother of the minor as well as a five year old child with Smith.  Ferguson has claimed that she was living in an abusive relationship with Smith for as long as nine years. On May thirty-first, a domestic dispute broke between the couple at their home in the Bainsville area, during which Smith was chopped with a machete. Over the weekend, Smith was released by the K.H.M.H. after receiving treatment for his injuries and was handed over to the Hattieville Police who levied charges of common assault, and harm upon him against his fourteen year old step son, Jaheem Ferguson and for the offenses of aggravated assault and wounding upon Ursula Ferguson.  At the end of his arraignment, Smith walked free from two of the four charges because Ferguson withdrew charges. Smith pleaded guilty to harm and common assault against his stepson and was sentenced to eight months in prison. But Smith owes the court one thousand five hundred dollars and Magistrate Deborah Rogers ordered that he serve jail time in lieu of the fine. So he will spend another two months in jail.
