16 Year Old Arraigned for Murder of John Jay Rodriguez

The well-known and loved artist John Rodriquez aka “John Jay” was killed in Dangriga in June of this year. His murder stunned the community; it occurred at the Harlem Square Game Shop which he was known to patronize.  A number of patrons were at the club on the night of the murder and witnessed as three gunmen approached the premises and demanded money. When the gunmen did not get the money, they opened fire ending the life of the popular artist. John Jay was playing one of the electronic gambling machines when his life was snuffed out. Today, police announced that they have cracked the case and have arrested a minor. The Belize City teenager, who is sixteen years old, has been charged with murder. Earlier today, he was arraigned in the Dangriga Magistrate’s court and remanded to the central prison until September twenty-eighth, 2016 when he is to return to court.
