Regional intelligence chiefs gather in Belize
Representatives from the special branch sections of twenty-one Caribbean police departments are in Belize to exchange experiences and discuss new strategies in the fight against crime. In his address, Head of Special Branch in Belize, Superintendent Mauricio Uk, stated that in light of global terrorism it is important that the intelligence communities in the region radically improve their work. According to Police Commissioner Carmen Zetina, and Chief Executive Officer in the Ministry of Home Affairs, Alan Usher, what is required is a fundamental change in the approach to crime fighting and improved sharing of intelligence.

” Besides the topic on agenda for this conference, I am hoping that you will have time to also review the issues of intelligence sharing within the region. Cruise ship tourism security in the Caribbean, youth crimes, corruption, terrorism, and trafficking in persons. These are some of the major issues affecting our societies today and will no doubt present a greater danger to all of the Caribbean if we do not promptly adapt proactive security measures.”
The security conference is taking place at the Radisson Fort George Hotel.
