City Council treats deserving youths to lunch at Princess
The Princess Hotel and Casino was abuzz with activity today as the children of Stella Maris School were hosted to a sumptuous lunch. The Princess group of companies in conjunction with the Belize City Council hosted the event. The school’s teachers, as well as one hundred and twenty students were treated to a hearty full course meal in the hotel’s Majestic Room. Other highlights of the activity-filled day were entertainment from the hotel’s game room, a movie, and even a clown. This is not the first such event that the council has hosted, as there was a similar luncheon for the children of the Dorothy Menzies’ Childcare Center. Mayor Zenaida Moya-Flowers says it’s all part of the Council’s aim to help those who may need that extra bit of support.

“We looked at where we could reach out to and immediately we thought of Stella Maris School. We’ve had similar events with the Princess group of companies and we’ve been able to work with them quite well and just wanted to continue in this fashion in terms of ensuring that them, as a business community are able to give back.”
Joy Wesby, Principal of Stella Maris School
“Often times, children with disabilities are considered in the lower bracket. And, we are blessed because I am sure that some of the children have never had the opportunity to have an experience here at the Princess Hotel.”

“And why do you think the City Council having events like these are important?”
Joy Wesby
“It shows that we are inclusive. It shows that we are special. Also that, you know, there are times when people are ready to bring you down, but then there are others ready to lift you up. I know that when the children leave from here, they’re going to have all this experience. They’re going to feel special. They’re going to feel no less than other children and, I want them to know that they are special and that they are fortunate and that the Creator looks at them no different than how he looks upon other children. So I just want them to feel that they’re included in everything that is happening in the country.”
