Former GSU Head Says He Had No Contact with Minor

While Flowers admits to meeting the minor in the summer of 2015, he maintains that he never had any physical contact with her.  As we mentioned, the report against him was made shortly after he relieved her stepfather of his duties as a farmhand.  Additionally, Flowers says that similar complaints, had been filed by the teen and her mother with Belmopan police in February, but those were not against him.  When he checked with his superiors, they reportedly acknowledged the reports but did nothing to investigate the matter.

“Last year in, it was the summer period, school was out and I had purchased a farmland in Black Man Eddy Village.  There are a number of young people there and I had employed maybe like four or five persons to do chopping on my land and they are village people, they are from the village.  And I went out, me, my cousin who I had in charge, Carla, we went out there and we saw these children also out there and they started to rake and they were given food.  And then eventually my cousin decided to give them fifteen dollars or twenty-five dollars, as the case may be, for raking up the shrubs.  I had no problem with that because they are school children.  At the end of summer, we had several little parties, not parties but get-togethers, family get-togethers where we made a lot of barbecues and they came and they ate.  That was it.  In March this year, I had hired a gentleman as my farmhand and assistant.  Turns out that it was the child’s stepfather.  The many instances that I would go there to pay him or to check on what was going on and never could have located him at my farm led me to conclude that I didn’t need his services anymore.  So on the first of July, the day before I went to the States, I fired him and that is as much contact as we have had in a lifetime.”

“So you terminated this individual’s employment on the first of July, you left for the United States immediately thereafter and upon your return it was to face this particular charge of sexual assault.

“Exactly.  When this information came to me, of course I started to investigate who this person was, why my name was called and the villagers, there are very many villagers in Black Man Eddy who called me over the last week and have said to me certain things.  And one of them said to me, “Listen, you may not know this but there is a report made by this same child and her mother around February of this year to Belmopan police as it relates to some sexual molestation of this child by the stepfather.  I communicated that information forthwith to Russell Blackett.  I communicated that to him forthwith, I said, “Did you know this?”  I think they checked it out.  I think he mentioned last week that there were two or simultaneous investigations going on and that they were going to check it out.  I don’t know that they are doing anything in that regard.”
