Summer camp begins to recruit youths

Story PictureYou know its summer because aside from the heat, one sure way of identifying this time of year is the end of classes and the beginning of summer camps that pop up, all over the country. The Pre-Infant Two to Standard Six Summer Program is the brainchild of Peter Lacey Junior. The camp covers educational as well as leisure activities. Lacey stopped by our studios today, to let viewers know why their kids should join his camp.

Peter Lacey Jr., Summer Camp Director
“This summer program began in 2004. I was a student at S.J.C. Junior College and it was something that I just started and began to grow. This year the program is expected to exceed one thousand students over that six year span. It’s a reading, mathematics and environmental education program and then we’ll be teaming up with Councillor Willoughby’s summer program where we’ll be doing sports with basketball, football and softball.”

Jose Sanchez
“At the end of the program are there any certificates, anything to show the students accomplishments?”

Peter Lacey
“This year we’ve had the privilege of having our certificate presentation at the Radisson Fort George Hotel. And that is expected to be unofficially on the thirty-first of July but we will get those information to parents while the program is going on. But we will be having our certificate presentation there and we will be handing out certificates of excellence to our students that we select that really show interest in the program; good manners and behavior; come to school on time and we’ll award them with a day trip for the younger kids and an overnight camping trip to Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary. That will be for the older students.”

Registration for the program takes place Thursday through Friday at Saint Ignatius Parish Hall. The camp runs from June twenty ninth to August second. And if you would like to find out more information you can call 664-9317or 622-9317.
