Massive Flooding Expected in the Aftermath of Hurricane Earl

Even as Belizeans work to recover from the impact of a storm which was much stronger than expected, there is more bad news to contemplate. There’s water heading our way – a lot of it, and it’s going to result in massive flooding in the Belize River Valley and Belize City, already reeling from the effects of Earl.

“In terms of the Macal River jumping its banks, in terms of the spillage already taking place at the dams, the forecast is that we’re going to be dealing with extremely serious flooding with waters added to I suppose coming down from the source in Guatemala, but inundating certainly possibly Belize City again and the River Valley so Lord, we are preparing to have to deal with another natural disaster in maybe five to seven days. In that context, if it turns out that is what we have to deal with again, I want to say to people – those people who did not listen and caused Chester and Broaster and Grinage and Philloughby to go out to try to evacuate them as I said when the winds were howling like a banshee and when it was so terribly dangerous. For God’s sake, if the floods are coming and we tell you again to evacuate, evacuate because there’s going to be a point at which the Police will say we’re not going to do it.”
