Woman raped, murdered at Roaring River

Story Picture
Around seven-thirty on Tuesday morning, twenty year old Rubita Oroman Hernandez left her house to do laundry at the nearby Roaring Creek. However, when she did not return home, the family became concerned. It was not until five this morning that a relative came upon the young woman’s body lying face up behind some bushes situated fifty yards from where she had gone to wash. According to Belmopan police, the body was nude and they observed a black and blue mark just below the left eye. Authorities strongly suspect she was raped and then killed. Neftaly Oroman told News 5 that he first became aware that his daughter was missing after he returned home from work around five yesterday evening. He says a passer-by told him that he had seen two buckets of clothes scattered along the riverside. Oroman, who was left to raise his nine children after his wife died two years ago, says the incident has taken a toll on the family. Through the help of a translator he told News 5’s Jacqueline Woods that not only was it devastating to learn that his daughter died, but says a neighbour told them that sometime between ten and eleven yesterday morning, he saw a suspicious man running away from the area.

Neftaly Oroman, Father (through Spanish translator)

?They found her body absolutely with no clothes and blood coming out through her nostrils. She was badly beaten… This person went home to get a gallon of water and when he was coming back he heard footsteps running across from a dry river stone and he stopped when he saw it?s a Creole guy coming like wet, wringing his shirt in his hand and he was so frightened he didn?t say anything. All he said was, yeah, and he continue his way down the river.?

?It?s a hard hit for them because it is a close relative to them and that?s the last person who I believe was supposed to be in the family, she is the last person, so it?s really hard for them. However, they will try and see if they can overcome it.?

Belmopan police say they have no suspects at this time.
