PM says Obama visit is possible
U.S. President Barack Obama has nominated his old college roommate and buddy Vinai Thummalapally as ambassador to Belize. Last Friday following the meeting of the House, the Prime Minister answered many questions; among them the real possibility of an Obama visit to the jewel.
Prime Minister Dean Barrow
“I would have to feel that he may come. If there is no chance of that happening, it will mean that he was not particularly straight with me or that he vaguely gave me a kind of pro forma answer to the invitation. In fact, I believe he was the one who suggested he would like to come. I am a great believer in mister Obama. And I don’t think that he would lightly have given that sort of undertaking almost; perhaps that’s too strong a word. So I have to think he was serious and that while there are going to be all sort of logistical difficulties to overcome, obstacles, that the man is serious that he does want to come and that we can make it happen.”
And on the issue of logistics, we wonder how in fact the Obama mobile, also known as “the beast” would maneuver on the tiny streets.
