“Cubanisimo” brings a bit of Cuba to Belize
The show, called “Cubanisimo”, is part art exhibition, part entertainment, and part bazaar. And as News 5’s Patrick Jones discovered, depending on your mood, this small touch of Cuba can be a very rewarding experience.

The exhibition which will run through Friday of next week at the House of Culture is featuring the works of Cuban artists from the city of Cienfuegos. Director of the Cultural Heritage Fund, Ruby Rodriguez, says the pieces include textiles, ceramics and paintings.

“This exhibition was organized by the Cuban Cultural Fund. It represents artistic hand craft and paintings. It also has the participation of some actors from Cienfuegos City… This is just a sample of what our Cuban masters are able to do with their hands.”
Whether it’s the sand lady, or the traditional cigar holder, the pieces are a testament to the patience and rich artistic culture of the people of Cuba. The exhibition also includes hundreds of hand made silver jewellery pieces and miniature musical instruments. Rodriguez says all Belizeans are invited to view the display.

“This is also a way of brotherhood. And here we also represent all that people are able to do with hands. For us it has a great importance.”

The exhibition will be opened during ceremonies tonight at the House of Culture and to the public starting Friday during normal working hours. It ends on Friday, May twenty-eighth. All the pieces on display are for sale. The exhibitors are being accompanied by the trio of brothers known as Son de Oro.
