N.T.U.C.B. Demands External Investigation into Murder of Pastor Lu
Evangelical Pastor Llewellyn Lucas was abducted from the residence of businessman William ‘Danny’ Mason on Intelco Hill in Belmopan on July eighth. Along with two other men, Lucas was blindfolded and taken to a ranch near mile thirty-one on the George Price Highway where he was butchered and decapitated. His head was later found inside a pigtail bucket in the pan of a Ford pickup truck belonging to Mason. That was over a month ago, and the gruesome murder sparked public outrage since it became known that the accused murderer, who goes by several aliases, rubbed shoulders with senior U.D.P. ministers and politicians, as well as senior officers in the government including the Police Department. Pastor Lucas, at one point, was also a trade unionist and was once the president of the Southern Workers Union. Today, umbrella organization, the National Trade Union Congress of Belize, issued a release condemning the murder of Pastor Lue. The N.T.U.C.B. is also demanding an external investigation to be conducted into the grisly homicide.
Marvin Mora, President, N.T.U.C.B.
“It is an issue that was pending for us at the congress and it is also very close to us because of the fact that Pastor Lucas was also a delegate of the N.T.U.C.B. At a point in time, he was an executive officers of his union, the Southern Workers Union, which operates out of the Stann Creek District. So we had to address that issue and it was important also that we revisit the update on that particular case there at the courts and see where we are with it.”
