A Stevedore is Shot Near Kraal Road

Also in the city, a near fatal shooting incident occurred on Saturday evening.  Clive Arnold, a known associate of the George Street Gang, came under fire while he was walking home near Rivero Street.  A barrage of gunshots was fired at the stevedore who attempted to flee from his unknown attacker.  Despite his attempt to run away, Arnold was hit twice.  Belize City police strongly believe that the shooting is gang-related.  This morning, a press brief was held at the Raccoon Street Precinct where Sergeant Isaias Sanchez provided an update on the investigation.

Sgt. Isaias Sanchez, Investigator, Eastern Division

“Thirty-six-year-old Clive Arnold, a Belizean stevedore of 19 Rivero Street, is recovering at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital after he was shot to the abdomen and right hand.  The incident happened on Saturday, August twentieth, about six forty-five p.m., Clive Arnold was walking on Rivero Street heading home from the direction of Kraal Road when he heard several gunshots.  He managed to run away after which he realized that he sustained the gunshot wounds.”

“In terms of your investigation into the matter, have you guys been able to determine a motive and can you ascertain whether he was in fact the target of this particular hit?”

Sgt. Isaias Sanchez

“Yes, he was indeed the target in this incident.  Clive Arnold had a previous misunderstanding.  He was previously shot on November twenty-second, 2015 on Fabers Road, where Trevor Guy was charged with the crime.  The matter is still at court.  Clive Arnold is no stranger to the police.  He has been involved in different cases as a victim and as a suspect.  He is an associate of the George Street Gang and we believe that this is a gang-related incident and we are working on it.  The investigation at this time is premature and we believe that with the assistance of the public we can probably get somewhere.  Clive Arnold did not have an opportunity to look at the direction from where the gunshots were coming from so the testimony is not good at this time.”
