Salvation Army Hands Out Relief Supplies for Victims of Hurricane Earl

The Salvation Army’s giving is not limited to the Christmas season. In times of disaster they can be found reaching out with what resources they have. Today, forty families from the Belize District were selected to receive much needed household and back to school items. We hear more from Major Joliker Leandre, the organization’s Regional Commander.

“We have selected forty families based on the Need List from the Human Services and basically they received stoves, household items, utensils and also schoolbags for the children, so the children get schoolbags and other supplies for them to go back to school.”

“I imagine this comes at a very good time for these families. Tell us how the funding was put together to acquire these items.”

“Basically we started from even before the hurricane, as a preventative measure, provide food items and that continues until now, because people are still coming for food assistance; and in addition to that – that is being done locally – then because the needs are great, when we looked at the need list then we contacted our headquarters in Jamaica, and they too decided to send us a grant to assist in this venture. So we didn’t want to burden the business community at this time, so all the funds that have been used are used from the Salvation Army funds.”

The total cost of the Army’s relief assistance is twenty thousand dollars.
