Violent crime wave cools for weekend

In crime news, the big story is that…there isn’t any…at least not any cases of murder or life threatening violence. There were also no fatal traffic accidents, despite the Agricultural Show weekend. While we are thankful for the respite from what often seems like a daily dose of criminal mayhem and carnage on the nation’s highways, the fact is that serious crime and deaths on the road invariably run in streaks. You can no more come to a conclusion on the national crime rate by looking at a week of murders in Belize City than you can establish a long-term weather pattern by experiencing two days of rain in Punta Gorda. In short, let’s hope the peaceful weekend is more than just a short-term phenomenon.
