Construction Worker Charged for Jewellery Theft at Central Bank Deputy Governor’s Home

The home of the Deputy Governor of Central Bank, Christine Maud Vellos, was burglarized in mid-August and the culprit is believed to be her own yard man who was entrusted with the keys of house which he was to deliver to the housekeeper.  Instead he used the key to access the house and stole three thousand dollars in jewellery.  This morning, Leon Price, a Construction Worker of Mile ten Phillip Goldson Highway, was arraigned in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court before the Chief Magistrate, Anne Marie Smith on a single charge of burglary. Price allegedly went into Vellos’ house and stole an assortment of jewellery, but in court he pleaded not guilty. The prosecutor objected to bail due to the prevalence of the crime and on the grounds that the evidence the police will be relying on against Price is overwhelming and he was caught red-handed coming out of Vellos’ room. And to top it off, Price owes the court six hundred dollars for previous convictions which he claimed he has partly paid. Bail was denied he was remanded into custody until November fourteenth, 2016.
