Kareem Musa Discusses Anwar Barrow’s B.T.L. Salary
How much is the Prime Minister’s son, Anwar Barrow, earning as Chairman of the Executive Committee at B.T.L.? That’s what Area Representative Kareem Musa asked in the House this morning. Granted, the House of Representatives is not the place or forum for a such a question, but Musa asked nonetheless. Here’s how the PM responded to that query.
Kareem Musa, Area Rep., Caribbean Shores
“Will the Right Honorable Prime Minister say what is the annual compensation package including salary and perks for Mister Anwar Barrow as the Chairman of the Executive Committee of Belize Telemedia Limited?”
Prime Minister Dean Barrow
“No Mister Speaker, we know what he trying to do. He’s trying to perpetrate; you are trying to be malign or is it malignant. But you are not just malignant or malign, but you obviously don’t do your homework and it seems that you are endowed with a baby brain because sir, if you look at your standing orders, you would have seen the rule that governs the asking of question. And you would have known that you have no right to ask such a question. B.T.L. is a private company in which the government—man can you; sit down and take yo licking. B.T.L. is a private company in which the government is the majority shareholder. Social Security also holds a number of shares, the Central bank holds a number of shares and there are individual shareholders who hold a number of shares. There are having an AGM coming up, you know. The question, the material that you want, any shareholder can ask that at the AGM. This is something that is easily available, but you want to come to the House to try to grandstand. We are also shareholders in B.S.I.; you would ask me to tell you what the C.E.O. package is in B.S.I.? He asked about B.E.L. too. The fool has asked about B.E.L. too.”
