COLA’s Geovannie Brackett Claims Support of Utilities’ Unions

Geovannie Brackett

At the end of our story on the protest in Belmopan, you heard COLA president Geovannie Brackett mention the silent trade union movement, but after, he told News Five that some are not entirely silent.

Geovannie Brackett, President, COLA

“I just got a text and I think I can be free to say – I cannot speak for the NTUCB. But the utilities’ unions have sent me a message that they are fully on board with us. They fully support us, they’re going through their process, but they are prepared for civil disobedience as well, they are prepared to do whatever it takes. So if we have cut light, water, the other utilities, to send a message to Capital Hill, we will do it. But you can expect – and we will show you evidence of that proof next week Monday.”

Brackett told us that the unions in question – the Belize Energy Workers’ Union, whose General Secretary Marvin Mora is also N.T.U.C.B. president; the Water Services’ Workers Union; and the Communications’ Workers’ Union – have written to the N.T.U.C.B. about their dissatisfaction with their bureaucracy.
