Opposition Leader Blames Speaker for B.T.L. Settlement Not Being Debated

John Briceño

During Monday’s press conference, People’s United Party leader John Briceño explained that the B.T.L. settlement did not make it into Friday’s debate because of the ruckus that ended the House Meeting.

John Briceño, Leader of the Opposition

“What happened, there was a confusion that happened there, again by the Speaker. The Speaker messed up on that time, because when the first appropriation bill was produced, we debated it. When the second one was produced, if you look at your tape I was standing…”

“…2016-2017. I stood up to be able to talk about it, and then the Speaker was talking it had to go to House committee. So I said when it comes back can we debate it and he said yes. Even the Prime Minister admitted to us afterward – he came across and said – why he said is the Speaker got all mixed up over it. But trust me, Jules; I had it on the adjournment. I was going to talk about that, and the reckless borrowing of this Government, when now they are maxing out the credit card. They are going to borrow from the Central Bank – Belizeans need to be aware of this – by printing money to the tune of one point zero five billion, billion dollars this U.D.P. Government is printing money to be able to borrow from the Central Bank. I was going to talk about that. So it’s not that we were running away from B.T.L.”
