P.U.P. Demand Minister of Immigration Resign and Recuse Self from Investigation
The Minister of Immigration Godwin Hulse is persistently coming under the microscope. At the sitting of the Senate Meeting last Wednesday, the P.U.P. senator requested that he recuse himself from voting on the motion for a Select Senate investigation into the immigration fiasco. Hulse was minister of immigration for some time during the period under review and signed on to a number of documents named in the report. The opposition party has also called for his resignation. It is not likely that Hulse will resign but what about his recusal? The P.U.P. senators explain.
Michel Chebat, P.U.P. Senator
“The legal team of the party…they are examining all options that are available to us including the possibility of judicial review to question the refusal of Minister Hulse to recuse himself.”
Valerie Woods, P.U.P. Senator
“The important fact also is the fact that we are not dealing with a minister that is not just the Minister of Immigration, but he is also the Minister of Police. And so even if we were to be generous and trust that a joint committee with a majority led government members in it could even dare to be fair, when it comes to having the police follow up these investigations. How can the police follow it up when one of the glaring instances involves their boss, the Minister of Police? As you woulda say ina Creole, rat can’t mind cheese.”
The P.U.P. also announced an online campaign for residents to write to their area reps to support the senate select investigation.
